The insulation used is of too lightweight a quality and is compressed tight to both the structural wall behind and the face of the new wall. The correct density acoustic insulation should only be incorporated within the framework and not behind ensuring an airspace is maintained between the insulation and the wall. This airspace then effectively doubles the effectiveness of the absorption as the sound has space to reflect off the hard wall back into the absorption. Doubling up of insulation in this manner is correct for thermal insulation within a loft space however not suitable for acoustic absorption. |
