In this case the floor joists are quite deep at 210mm so the inclusion of Sound Reducing Materials within is reasonably straightforward. As is clear the joist cavity does contain many pipes and wiring some of which are obsolete. The ceiling below is a Lath and Plaster construction as can be seen via the clumping of the plaster pushed through the timber laths. There were no cross noggins within this construction and as a result deflection/movement both vertically and horizontally was an issue. This was rectified by installing full depth timbers (noggins) between the joists as Bracing and Steel Restraint straps binding the Joists to the Walls. |
