Joist depths do have some significance on the acoustic performance of a structure and in this case (as above) are measured at approx 175mm. Structural Deflection is usually an issue with Floor Joists with these dimensions partially depending on any additional supporting elements, span, condition, width and spacing. Problems are often observed where they anchor into the wall however this is much the same with deeper joists due to the age. The length of the floor joist and the distance of the span will usually be the determining factor in how rigid the floor is. |
