In this case a dual layer of 12mm fire resisting boards was used attached directly to the framework in the normal Dry Lining manner. The overall weight of the dual panel system is approx 20kg/m2, well below the minimum requirement for an acoustic walling system. Also there is no further de-coupling of the finished boards from the timber sub-frame, an essential element in almost all acoustic works of this type.
Dual boarding of the same weight and thickness will actually work against each other acoustically speaking as both the panels resonate at the same frequency. It has been shown that alternating the densities of the panels create a frequency impedance mismatch resulting in additional vibration cancellation and better reduction values.
This wall system was removed and replaced with an Independent Wall System incorporating a lead curtain lining to the existing Solid Brick Wall supplied and installed by us. |
